Many of the officers of the Canonsburg Police Department are specialist in various fields. Through continued education and training, these officers employ the most recent techniques and practices to ensure the safety of the community.
Specialty Training
- MCSAP (Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program): Specialty training to reduce CMV (Commercial Motor Vehicle) involved crashes, fatalities, and injuries through consistent, uniform, and effective CMV safety programs.
- Drug Task Force: Officers assigned to fighting narcotics crimes and overdose deaths in the Borough.
- SRO (School Resource Officer): Officers trained to work with youth located throughout the CM School District facilities.
- Drone Pilots: Officers licensed in drone operations.
- Crime Prevention through Environmental Design: Specially-trained officer that evaluates, and makes recommendations, on how to secure and make all building types safer.
Community Services
- Vacation Home Check: Officers will check the perimeter of your home to ensure its security while you are away. (To alert Police Department of your departure, please complete and submit the Vacation Home Check Form to the right.)
- Business Check: Officers conduct nightly checks on all doors in The Downtown Business District to ensure that all are locked up tight.
- Crime Prevention: As a community-oriented department, Canonsburg Police frequently conduct crime prevention seminars focusing on the most relevant crime issues facing communities today.
- ALICE Training (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate): Certified officers educate your business, organization, school, and/or place of worship on how to respond in the event of an active shooter situation.
- Autism Awareness Program: Stickers/Decals available at the Police station for homes and cars to alert first responders.
- Safety Talks: Officers available to address your group to discuss safety measures.
- Safe Exchange Zone: Camera-surveillance area located in Borough lot available for custody exchanges, online purchases, etc.
